As the nation entered the 1930s and was coping with the Great Depression, few could have imagined establishing a new business. But, that is exactly what William K. McGowan, Sr. set out to do. An Indianapolis native, he astonished friends and associates by going into the insurance business and starting what would later become McGowan Insurance Group, Inc. The agency has succeeded far beyond its founder’s dreams.

Eighty years later, as these dreams continue, McGowan Insurance Group is perfectly situated in downtown Indianapolis. We remain a family business, with son Hugh B. and grandson Hugh M. McGowan at the helm.
